Itch.io cuts support for Stranded in Space

Well, here is some sad news.

Recently, my account lost the privilege of Itch.io's Payouts feature, which, for NSFW devs, is a really terrible thing. This decision was made against my account without any warning, discussion, or recourse, and I couldn't really tell you why it happened, as Itch refuses to get into specifics. To make matters worse, the decision is final.

I won't post unproven speculation, but know that there are some bad-faith actors out there who are hypothesizing that this action taken by Itch was done to combat fraud, misuse of their platform, or particularly egregious NSFW content. From what little information I do have, it is in my opinion that none of these reasons are why Itch has done this to me, but again, there isn't a lot of verified information out there.

Essentially, if you read this post on Itch's support forums, you'll know about as much as I do, the owner of this account (lol).

Beyond the fact that it's completely unprofessional of a business to terminate an arranged deal with no real explanation (or reference of fault in their ToS), know that I have done nothing wrong with my account or game. Those of you who have played Stranded in Space are likely laughing at the idea that the NSFW content could be deemed too "risky," and of the 1,700+ purchases made here on the Itch platform, two have been refunded.

...So yeah, this doesn't feel great.

In relation to Stranded in Space being on Itch, what are my options? As of now, I truly don't know. I'm currently awaiting about five emails from various pertinent parties, and pending their responses, I'm sure I'll figure something out.

Here's hoping it all works out.

To any people wondering, I purchased this on steam today and my saves are there waiting to be loaded (I even made sure they would load!). It was very nice to see I won't have to start over from the beginning again! Yes it would've been nice for the people who purchased the game here on itch to get a steam key but it's selling on steam for way more than it cost me here a year ago ($5) so I guess I can understand since apparently the dev decided later on they wanted more for their product. A $5 credit or something like that would've been nice towards the steam purchase too, but since I've really been enjoying this I guess I just chalked up the original $5 I spent here as a early access fee or something. It's not ideal, but itch has been doing weird things to these adult vn devs and didn't seem to give them any heads-up so they could make other arrangements.

What will happen to us who paid for the game?

Yeah, it would be good if we could get a key for the Steam release.

So need to get a computer?

I'm gonna be releasing the Android version on my Patreon for now. The free version of Days 1-16 I just released here on Itch has an APK version.

k thx

Did you have anywhere else you were posting it, or was it just on itch? A lot of the devs for games I like on here have been saying similar stuff, and I just wanted to know, so that a, I can find this again should it get updated, and b, on the off chance that they're posting it there as well

I'm on Patreon, and soon to be releasing on Steam.

Alright, good to know, thanks

I hope you find a new home for you're work soon sir.

:(

Love Stranded in Space so much, unfortunately game crashes multiple times for me during laptop chat and various animated scenes. I'm currently stuck with Gigi in her loft and have not been able to progress any further. I have multiple saves due to the crashing. Hopefully crashing can be addressed in a future update. I have downloaded the Android version apk for my Samsung Galaxy android phone. Game is alot of fun & I hope that the bugs can be worked out at some point. Game crashing has been a constant issue for me and definitely effects ability to fully enjoy and immerse oneself in game, but I am hopeful for a eventual patch/fix.

Such a shame. I hope there is some other way for you to get this brilliant game out.

So, I know nothing of game development. But here's to hoping you figure something out!

Whether it gets moved to Steam or you go solo or something. Whichever way you go, I just hope Itch.io will allow you to let us know on here, what ends up happening. Cause for the most part I don't even care about the sex (although still love the female nudity), I just want to see what happens next! How it concludes!

Just get your game released on Steam as quick as possible. I've already wishlisted it there after playing 1-13 here. Great game.

They did the same thing on Game Jolt' thats how I found this site and now its happening here. I got House Party from there and I can still get the latest version of the game to download' thats the only time I ever visit Game Jolt. There must of been some legal agreement done on on Game Jolt because I brought the game from them' maybe they have to honour that agreement maybe' who knows.

This may sound strange to some but i'd check out GOG. They have been accepting adult games the last year or so. That would keep a DRM free option for those who value that. Itch.io needs to put the pipe down and go to rehab. I just checked their top sellers and it is full to the brim of adult games. They're cutting off their biggest money makers.

+1 on Steam - I've wishlisted it, and as an IT consultant of many years, I'd suggest you prioritize it. You'll get a larger potential audience and followers for future projects.

Steam has some content regulations that are a bit of a pain in the arse. But pretty sure your content would be fine. So yeah .. I'd be fine with buying again on Steam and supporting you there.

To be honest, I don't follow itch.io. I'm almost 100% on STEAM.  Just move over to steam as it has a much wider audience than this platform anyway.

let us know when we can wishlist/buy on steam, as patreon will just do the same thing to you.
imo: there is absolutely nothing that even borders on illegal in this game, doesnt even come close like some other games do. love your work

other devs have been saying about them changing/cutting stuff and its not right for them to do it. i have enjoyed ur game and i purchesed it once and was happy i did on here. i dont understand y they have been doing this recently.

i enjoy it taht i can play on my phone and not have to be at my computer to play the game.

I think so too. If it be on steam it may not have android version

Good luck Bro

Well i brought this game a little over a year ago and I can say i have enjoyed every minute of it. I hope you can make it through this i hope to see more from you in the future my friend :3

Can't you sell on Steam and GOG and update the game like you do now?

(+1)

That's definitely going to happen. It still sucks though, because I like the community and following I've established here on Itch.

Can you please also look into a way to keep the android users included as well?

As far as I know there is no support for Android games on steam 😭 (an area which definitely needs more love from them)

Yeah, It sucks that Itch is doing this.
